How to Be Productive Outside the Office

Working remotely from home or while on the road may present challenges. Keeping your slippers on and playing your favorite Netflix series in the background can be rewarding, but it takes discipline and a bit of planning to be productive. Check out our tips to help make things fun and efficient while staying productive outside the office.

Morning Routine
Residence Inn

Start each morning as if you were leaving your home or hotel room. That doesn’t necessarily mean applying a full face of make-up or dress in your corporate apparel unless either of those things assists with your activity level. The idea here is to have a morning routine that will set you up for success. Wake up early for meditation or reading, prepare breakfast, and write your to-do list for the day. The fully-equipped kitchens at Residence Inn Sandestin are perfect for cooking your favorite breakfast while having to work indoors and on the road. Each suite comes with a full fridge to stock your must-have items, plus a coffee machine to brew your favorite coffee blend and brand so you can stay alert and productive.

Set a Workstation

When working from a hotel room or remotely at home, try not to work from your bed. Set up a workstation or desk where you can sit up comfortably and not be distracted by pillows and blankets tempting you to cuddle. Gather all your essentials like your laptop, chargers, phone, water, and notepads, so that you have everything you need to get started and stay focused. Luckily, if you’re staying at Courtyard Sandestin, your room is furnished with a full work desk. Fast and reliable internet, a comfortable desk chair, and lamp are all available to make your in-room office most efficient.

Schedule Breaks
Hyatt Place

Just like if you were at the office if you’re working remotely or at a hotel, make sure you schedule breaks to refuel, stretch, and to step outside. The blue light from your devices can cause your eyes to feel fatigued; stepping away from your screen every few hours allows your eyes to rest. You can still be productive and with scheduled breaks. Walk around and take in your surroundings, whether it be outside your front door or the lobby of your hotel. The Hyatt Place Sandestin team partnered with the Culture Art Alliance to curate their lobby with paintings from local South Walton artists. View the unique and one-of-a-kind pieces and then step outside and around the corner to Black Bear Bread Company to grab an iced coffee and some sunshine.

In times where we must continue our daily lives and tasks, while perhaps being disrupted by kids, dogs, pandemics, or scrolling down our social media feeds, we can rely on simple pleasures that bring us closer to normalcy. Whether working remotely is new for you or if you’re a pro, it can be an incredibly rewarding experience if you stay focused and balanced.
