Residence Inn Sandestin Partners with Dog-Harmony

Howard Hospitality has always strived to make the world and our community a vibrant and thriving place. We also aim to value every life we encounter. One way that we work to accomplish this endeavor is through involvement in our community. We do this by volunteering and creating awareness for local charitable organizations. We believe in giving back to our community in various ways in hopes to make a lasting impact. For that reason, each of our properties has partnered with a local nonprofit organization.

Our latest partnership brings together Residence Inn by Marriott Sandestin at Grand Boulevard and Dog-Harmony. It is our hope through this partnership to help build positive relationships between canines and humans. Founded by certified professional dog trainer, Nancy Bown, Dog-Harmony is a nonprofit, volunteer-run organization that works to create lifelong adoptions by providing personalized and ongoing education, training, and support for people and dogs.

What makes Dog-Harmony different?

dog-harmony

Dog-Harmony is quite different from many other adoption services and animal welfare groups. Not only do they train dogs, but, more importantly, they also work to “train” the public and pet parents. They believe that the key element in their mission and work is education. And, this educational aspect is for humans and dogs no matter what age. Dog-Harmony especially works to educate the younger generation. They offer special classes that teach children the best ways to interact with dogs. So far, more than 1,700 local children have taken this class.

Adoptions

When it comes to adoptions, Dog-Harmony also does things a little different. New pet parents are provided individualized attention before, during, and even after to make sure the new family has the right tools to build a successful life together. In addition, all of the programs offered by Dog-Harmony are low-cost or free. Ultimately, the goal of Dog-Harmony is to keep dogs from becoming homeless in the first place, and they are certainly making great strides with over 180 dogs being adopted through Dog-Harmony since 2013.

Join the Dog-Harmony Pack

Beginning August 20, 2018, Residence Inn by Marriott Sandestin at Grand Boulevard will join the Dog-Harmony pack to help work towards furthering their efforts in our community. Not only will guests be provided with information to increase awareness of Dog-Harmony, but they will also be able to purchase a variety of adorable plush dogs of different breeds. The proceeds from the sale of the plush dogs will go directly to Dog-Harmony so that they can continue providing low-cost and free services which include:

  • community and children’s humane education
  • low-cost microchipping clinics
  • spay and neuter programs in conjunction with Operation Spay Bay
  • adoption services
  • community events and doggy socials
  • classes and seminars.

As the leading pet-friendly extended stay hotel, Residence Inn Sandestin and Dog-Harmony make the perfect pair. For more information about Dog-Harmony and how you can join the pack, visit them online or visit the Dog-Harmony kiosk in the Grand Boulevard Town Center.
