Cinco de Mayo may celebrate the defeat of the French army during the Battle of Puebla in Mexico on May 5, 1862, but it’s also the perfect day to have a fiesta. Here on the coast, we love any reason to have a good time. This is especially true if it involves tacos and tequila when it’s not even a Tuesday! As you celebrate the culture, achievements, and experiences of those with a Mexican heritage this Cinco de Mayo, check out some of our favorite local events.
Cinco de Mayo Celebration hosted by Grand Boulevard and Cantina Laredo
Our friends at Cantina Laredo, located at Grand Boulevard at Sandestin, are gearing up for their annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration and festivities at Grand Park. This family-friendly event kicks off at 2pm with free face painting and arts and crafts for the kids by Abrakadoodle. There will also be yard games for the whole family to enjoy, too.
What’s a fiesta without a little food and booze?! Cantina Laredo’s tasty tacos, yucca fries, and delicious churros will be for sale in the park as well as special margarita cocktails created especially for this event. Cantina Laredo’s Specialty Sauza Margarita and their Tajin Watermelon Rita will also be for sale for $5 and beers for only $3. While you sip on your margaritas, enjoy music from Hunter Dawson from 2-5pm. Then stick around for local favorite, The Graytones, from 7-10pm. Don’t forget to bring your chairs and blankets! This event is free and open to the public.
After the fiesta, come stay with us at Courtyard by Marriott Sandestin at Grand Boulevard or Residence Inn by Marriott Sandestin at Grand Boulevard. Both award-winning properties are within walking distance from the celebration in Grand Park.

Start the party at Mexcal Mexican Grill a little early at 5pm. They will be featuring a Kentucky Derby and Mint Julep Tasting, compliments of Maker’s Mark. Then, dive into tastings from Patron and Sauza. Did we mention they have $5 House Margaritas ALL DAY?! Also enjoy roasted pig carnitas tacos, shredded chicken tacos, and chicken taquitos for just $2 each and churros for only $1. Live music by the Fais Do-Do Band will also be featured from 6-10pm.
Derby de Mayo at The Bay
How about a fiesta with a view? Join our friends at The Bay, located at the foot of the 331 Bridge in South Walton overlooking the Choctawhatchee Bay, for their Derby de Mayo. Dress up Derby-style with your big hat and fancy dress as you enjoy a Hot Brown Sandwich and Mint Julep. Or, you can don your sombrero and chow down on some tacos and margaritas. Sugarcane Jane will hit the stage at 3pm followed by Larry Fleet and Phillip White from Nashville at 6:30pm.
