3 Ideas for Your Next Romantic Getaway

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, couples across the country are scrambling to come up with new ways to celebrate. Whether it is your first Valentine’s Day together or your twentieth, there are few things you can do to make your day (or weekend) special. Taking a romantic trip doesn’t have to break the bank or cause a headache. Planning a short excursion within driving distance can be the perfect solution to the hum-drum post-holiday blues.

  1. Call ahead!

If you are planning a one or two-night trip with your special someone, call your hotel before your reservation and ask them what they can do to make your stay extraordinary! Employees in the hotel industry are there to make your stay memorable; and a trademark of any good hospitality company are workers who are eager to share in your special occasions. Maybe adding rose petals or a bottle of chilled champagne to your prepared room before your check-in can be a simple way to show your sweetheart that you care and to make the trip stand out from a regular vacation.

  1. Ask for recommendations

The staff at your hotel knows the area better than a search engine. Ask the front desk or concierge where they would go to celebrate a romantic occasion! You might be surprised at what you find. Whether you prefer steakhouses, fondue restaurants or a low-key pizza joint they will be able to point you in the right direction to make your night special.

  1. Embrace what is unique

Whether you’ve planned a romantic getaway to a destination or a romantic “staycation” in your hometown; find what makes the locale unique and embrace it! Here in Miramar Beach, the gorgeous South Walton sunsets are a stroll away. Take a walk on the beach before dinner. It’s free and romantic; and even in February the weather is gorgeous.  Finding local art and theatre to see are also high up on the list of romantic and site-specific ideas to help you celebrate your relationship. If you are a nature-lover, find out what local parks and outdoor attractions are in the area.

Here in South Walton a must-see destination is Eden Gardens State Park and the Wesley Homestead on site.  A 163-acre preservation with an historic 1897 mansion at its centerpiece Eden Gardens hosts many weddings and special events. Furthermore, the landscaping and live-oak canopied pathways of the park are the perfect setting for a romantic stroll.
