Why Investing In Local Arts Is Important

Visiting the Emerald Coast isn’t just about beautiful word-famous beaches. Even if you have only been to one of our sixteen unique beach communities, you must have been impacted by the architecture or local art. The culture of the South Walton community is strong and only getting stronger. It is imperative that we support the arts and arts education now more than ever. We are growing, not only in our permanent resident population but also in the number of tourists we receive every year. If we want to stay competitive with larger vacation-destinations, we must offer a diverse experience for both locals and visitors. Howard Hospitality is a proud supporter of the arts and arts education because we know we are not just investing in today, we are investing in the future of our area.

The Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County (CAA) and the Emerald Coast Theatre Company (ECTC) are two of our favorite local organizations dedicated to strengthening the arts in our community. Established in 1989, The CAA works tirelessly year round to provide art classes and scholarships and funding to artists in our community; as well as producing several outstanding events in Walton County, such as the 30A Songwriters Festival, ArtsQuest and the South Walton Fashion Week. The Emerald Coast Theatre Company (ECTC) was founded in 2012 and is a non-profit theatre company dedicated to enriching and entertaining the community through professional and educational theatre. ECTC has recently found a permanent home on Grand Boulevard and we are so proud to be the official lodging sponsor of this great organization.

A study sponsored by Art Works reported that children who are involved in the arts reported higher standardized test scores in school and are 29% more likely than non-arts students to earn a four-year college degree. Our investment in the arts is setting our community up for a new generation of well-rounded and well-educated professionals. Look at how far we have come to this point, how much we have grown. Looking towards the future and the investments we are putting in place today, we can’t help but know that the next generation of South Walton caretakers will be even more brilliant, more dedicated and more successful.
